Welcome to the |
![]() The Benjamin Logan School Food Service Department's main purpose is to prepare nutritious lunches and to help boys and girls form good food habits that may continue into adult life. It is our hope that their lunchroom experiences will contribute to the development of healthy bodies and minds, better equipping students for coping in our complex society. Our basic philosophy is "Eat to Learn - Learn to Eat." Lunch in the cafeteria should teach children to recognize and enjoy a well-balanced meal; it also provides an opportunity to eat a variety of wholesome foods. The school lunch can provide cultural and social experiences. Teachers may utilize lunchroom experiences to add enrichment in the various areas of instruction, particularly in health, science, art, social studies, and math. All meals served must meet standards established by the Ohio Department of Education, Child Nutrition Program, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Free/reduced lunch applications are given to all students at the beginning of each new school year. The applications are approved by the building principals and are kept on file in the food service supervisor's office. Extra applications are available in the school offices.
School lunch prices are as follows: All adult and student lunches include milk. Ala Carte items are available in each building. If a child has been determined to have a disability/allergy and the disability/allergy prevents the child from eating the regular meal, we will make modifications or substitutions prescribed by the physician at no additional charge. We do everything possible to meet the needs of each student. Forms are available in the school office that must be filled out by a physician for food allergies or other disabilities and returned to the school. Each student within the district is assigned a computer generated 4-digit number to be used for their lunch account. Any amount of money may be deposited into the students lunch account. The student's number is either entered by the student or the cashier at the end of the lunch line after they have chosen their lunch items. The computer deducts the proper amount from their account and will alert the cashier of low balances. Students are reminded or a letter is sent home to the parents of low balances. A computerized print out of each student's account activity is available upon request from the parent. Account numbers are assigned to each student as they begin a new building. When it is time for the student to move on to the next building, a new number will be assigned. However, if the student has a remaining balance in their old account, it is transferred to the new account. Benjamin Logan School does not permit high school or middle school student to charge lunches. The elementary school students are allowed to have two lunch charges. But, if an elementary student comes to school without his/her money, and has already charged lunch twice, we give them a peanut butter sandwich and milk at a minimal charge until their lunch charges are paid. We do this because we do not believe any student should go without eating. Research indicates that all students perform at higher levels within the school setting when consuming a well balanced meal.
