Welcome to Curriculum Corner

Our philosophy is to help each student reach his or her fullest potential no matter where he or she starts. We do this by assessing all students to gain an understanding of their current skills. Then we build instruction to meet their needs. We are working hard to differentiate the instruction students receive, so all students will make significant progress. Through the Ohio Academic Content Standards, we are preparing students for college and the world of work.

Grade-by-Grade Parent Guides to the Common Core

Content and grade-specific parent roadmaps, developed by The Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) have provided detailed information for parents about the expectations of the Common Core in English Language Arts and Literacy and Mathematics. The roadmaps can be found by clicking on the links below. These roadmaps include examples of grade-level focus in the content area using parent-friendly language, sample progressions of learning across three grade levels in the Common Core, and tips to parents on communicating with teachers about their child's work and how to support student learning at home.

In addition, CGCS also developed two three-minute videos (one in English and one in Spanish) that explain the Common Core in a slightly longer form. The three-minute videos explain how the Common Core will help students achieve at high levels and help them learn what they need to know to get to graduation and beyond.

THIS YEAR'S FOCUS

Benjamin Logan Local Schools has a group of excellent teachers who have committed themselves to improving the education of all students, especially those who need a different delivery approach. With the help of dedicated administrators, we are focusing on what data tells us about our students in order to provide them with the most appropriate education. We use short cycle assessments, formative assessments, quick checks, practice tests and computer based learning to evaluate what standards and indicators students have mastered and which ones teachers need to continue to teach until all students master them. This way teachers can change their lessons accordingly. We are also working to provide teachers with strategies and resources to help students with disabilities and students who are economically challenged to meet their fullest potential. It is our goal to see all students succeed.
