Can vs. HuMan |
The Benjamin Logan FFA worked in conjunction with the Benjamin Logan FCCLA and local farmers to encourage healthy eating by sampling locally grown farm fresh foods. They analyzed healthy and homemade food versus packaged or processed food. The Benjamin Logan FFA created nutrition labels, conducted a survey for taste testing, and recorded the findings. The findings will be read on the morning announcements and posted on the television. The television will also be used to display nutrition facts of the current day’s cafeteria offerings as well as promote local producers. FCCLA students in the Healthy Foods classes prepared the foods for the tasting samples.
Benjamin Logan held lunch room taste testings’ with nutrition facts, ingredients, and cost placed on each sample to inform the students on their choices. Each student that wanted to participate brought in canned food items to donate to the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry – through the FFA / TSC partnership Harvest for America.
There were 58 students and staff members that participated in the small grains taste-testing. During the activity there were 50 canned food items that were donated to St. Vincent De Paul. All the students and staff that participated became more aware of local food options and healthier recipes. |
